Banking integration: performance and service continuity

Project experience in banking payments, transaction flows and regulatory reporting, with a focus on service continuity and platform modernisation.

As information systems grow more tangled, integration stops being plumbing and becomes the thing that determines whether the rest performs. Our engineering teams spend their days connecting, securing and improving flows that nobody sees until the day they stop. Thomas Lucas, integration engineer, describes his current assignment, his work in the Satisco Lab, and where he thinks the job is going.

Service continuity in banking

I work as a senior engineer on integration and application messaging, mainly on IBM tools.

Thomas Lucas

Thomas Lucas works with a Franco-Luxembourgish banking group on payment, transaction and regulatory reporting flows. Security and compliance are part of design and operational requirements.

Modernisation and service continuity

A large financial institution runs thousands of heterogeneous flows, many of them older than the people maintaining them. The difficulty is never the target architecture. It is getting there while production keeps running.

Projects combine REST APIs, Kafka, CI/CD pipelines and application dependency management. Traceability, security and resilience are considered in each change.

The Satisco Lab

Satisco LAB focuses on R&D and the evaluation of new technical solutions.

I worked on a framework that monitors integration flows and automates their deployment on a Kubernetes cluster hosted in the cloud.

Thomas Lucas

The project had three objectives: validate that our tooling works properly in the cloud, cover integration, monitoring and operations in one coherent solution, and try ideas before a client asks for them. Several clients have since asked to see it.

Trends in application integration

Cloud and artificial intelligence are pushing architectures towards event-driven designs, and the job changes with them.

Integration provides the data required for operations and business decisions.

Thomas Lucas

Our internal work focuses on anomaly detection, incident diagnosis and deployment automation to improve data availability.
